RECYCLE RACING provides racing products made of #2 recyclable plastic (PET) manufactured in Portland, Oregon using soy-based inks at a Forest Stewardship Certified (FSC) printer. We custom-design race numbers for every event, offering a wide variety of options including multiple tear-tags, barcodes, detachable warm-up bag stickers and participant names on our bibs. Our standard bib size is 7.5 x 5.5 inches, and the possibilities are endless!
Why does recyclability matter? Nearly 10 million people participate in running races around the United States every year. Most of them wear race numbers affixed to their shirts to identify them as participants of a particular event. While one bib seems trivial, 10 million in the United States alone is cause for serious environmental impact calculation. Traditional Tyvek bibs cannot be easily recycled curbside in most municipalities, so most of 10 million race bibs end up in landfills every year. That is, until RECYCLE RACING entered the scene in 2009.
As Runner’s World Magazine indicated in its November 2008 issue focused on Green Races, it is clear that there is a strong shift toward sustainability, particularly with athletic events. Significant changes are already underway with the Council for Responsible Sport, the Green Sports Alliance and others. Still, one of the missing links in this sustainability strategy is the ubiquitous Tyvek bib. RECYCLE RACING believes the time has come for sweeping change in race products and we are ready with sustainable solutions for all racing events.
